Information Management

The term Information Management describes the process surrounding the acquisition and management of required information within a company.

The local and prompt availability of information plays a crucial role, so that an efficient Information Management becomes increasingly important. This makes the organisation and provision of chosen, necessary and up-to-date information as well as the setup of a suitable information infrastructure, especially an IT infrastructure (often employing a Document Management System (DMS)), paramount.

There are varying definitions regarding information management. There is often an overlap and parallels to similar terms, e.g. knowledge management or Enterprise Content Management.
